Welcome & thank you so much for choosing J-Man Carpentry!

We’re going to walk you through a few things to expect along the way.

DEPOSIT

Prior to construction, J-Man Carpentry LTD. requires a deposit depending on project size and will be indicated on your quote or invoice (typically 50%). This is required to be paid prior to project start and to secure your spot in our schedule. We will not book you in until we have the deposit in hand. As we have many projects on the go and are a relatively small operation (just Jarrett & Eryn with help as needed), this deposit helps us to purchase the materials required to start and complete your project. All of our quotes include both labour and materials in the quoted price.


LATE PAYMENT POLICY

Amount on invoices unpaid after 28 days are subject to 2% interest. When you do not pay on time, this results in J-Man Carpentry financing your project. As much as we wish we were a bank (sounds lucrative!), we are not. Please make arrangements with us ahead of time to set up a payment plan if you need a little extra help with the payment schedule.


SOCIAL MEDIA

J-Man Carpentry is active on social media and we like to keep our followers up to date on what we are working on. This includes work at our shop, in progress pictures and videos, and final project pictures (everyone loves a before & after!). We assume through hiring us that you agree to allow your home & project to be featured in our social media. We will never disclose any information on our social media that would identify you or your address or show any other matters that should be kept private. Depending on the project and your level of participation, we do occasionally show clients using/enjoying their new J-Man furniture or renovation, but that is something we will specifically ask for your permission to share. On your social media, if you choose to share photos of your new space or J-Man item and tag us in it, we assume that grants us permission to re-share to our social media & followers. If for whatever reason you are uncomfortable with your projects or home being shared to our social media, let us know directly prior to project start.


PROJECT TIMELINES

Unfortunately construction has many varied factors when it comes to starting or completing a project on time. As we are often working on more than one project at once, we sometimes have to bounce back and forth between jobs as need arises. Acquiring materials can often set us back as we wait for items to ship or come back into stock (especially during times of covid). Additionally, sometimes projects require some preparation for our work to be started (such as plumbing, electrical, concrete work, etc.) and our timeline depends on another sub trade’s availability. Therefore, we will do our best to give you an approximate start date and project completion timeline, however, sometimes things come up!


PROJECT DESIGN

We hope that in hiring us, you appreciate our ability to creatively problem solve & visualize projects. We don’t often repeat projects and are always willing to try something new. It’s hard to explain, but sometimes wood, as a living being, has a mind of its own. Sometimes it inspires us to create a project in a certain way. Sometimes it decides to warp like crazy out of nowhere. To some people, that organic warmth, grains, knots and imperfections are what gives wood personality. To others, they may just see flaws. We’re here to embrace flaws and work with what wood gives us. This may result in projects evolving. If you are needing something specific, you need to tell us specifically. If we don’t receive many directions, that tells us that you are open to our creative interpretation of the project. We can only really show you pictures of projects we have previously created or rough sketches as we don’t truly know what a piece of furniture will look like until it is done. We sometimes will do renderings of proposed projects, but these may not match or be fully reflective of the final result.

COMMUNICATION & “OFFICE HOURS”

We love active communication on projects with our clients and are always open to answer any questions you may have. You can reach us via email, text or phone call (we have voicemail if we miss your call) and we’ll get back to you asap. As small business owners, we find ourselves on the clock more often than we want (work/life balance is a struggle!) so we may sometimes reply to your messages late in the evening or on weekends. We do prefer to attempt to keep our evenings and weekends for ourselves so please do not be offended if we do not answer messages on weekends (except for a touch base on Sunday evening if we plan to be at your place on Monday) or after 8 pm during the week. We often see your messages and will reply if it is an urgent matter.

You can see our returns policy here. Wood moves with changes in humidity and temperature, so we cannot guarantee perfection over time. Do contact us if something goes wrong or you have an issue and we’ll troubleshoot a solution!


Upon communication to us of your approval of the estimate, we will send you our formal approval document. This includes all the not-so-fun legal stuffs that protects both you and us! Signatures are needed and then we can send you an invoice to collect the deposit.
